Stretch Marks – an Interpretation for the Neophytes

Just like acne, the fairer sex is known to despise stretch marks also. The marks can occur to anyone – there is no discretion in those matters. Plenty of insights and thoughts are presented to the immature audience regarding stretch marks. One will be surprised to learn the myths and odd treatment procedures that are listed for the same condition. Instead of following the same principle, I will in turn try a different strategy with the current audience. The causes, symptoms and of course the treatment procedures for the same condition will be outlined in the following sections.

The reader might be aware of the following fact – the skin has an elastic property associated with it. This elastic nature of the skin is attributed by elastic and collagen fibers present in the skin. In the absence of these fibers, stretch marks materialize. What happens to the fibers that augment the elasticity of the skin? The functioning of these is greatly shunned by glucocorticoid hormone. The exact purpose of the generation of this hormone is still unknown to this day. The formation of stretch marks is a chain reaction – glucocorticoid will be generated, they will act on the fibers present on the skin, and when the skin loses its elasticity, stretch marks occur.

The symptoms of stretch marks are plain simple. Marks or striations on the surface of the skin are the main symptom. The skin covers the entire body. This paves the way for the occurrence of stretch marks in any part of the body, where the skin is present. The situation is embarrassing when it occurs on a region that is visible to the outside world, such as the hands, stomach or the face. Some of the common treatment options will be outlined, now.

There is no specific treatment option for the condition. Stretch marks materialize and disappear just like they came! The only gripe is the amount of time taken for the disappearance of the marks. It might take many years before the situation is contained and the marks are removed naturally. One will be able to find plenty of skin creams that are touted to remove stretch marks. These creams are known to contain agents that will inhibit the production of glucocorticoid. When the hormone is not produced on the skin, the elasticity of the skin is regained. And in the process, stretch marks are also eliminated.

Stretch marks can be removed with the aid of surgical procedures. These surgeries are very expensive – bear in mind that they are far from the reach of common people. The surgeon will cover the region with a layer of skin (taken from some other part of the body). Advanced treatment procedures like laser grafting and cryogenic freezing of the skin cells are also widely employed. If you have money to burn, then sky is the limit in the niche of cosmetic surgery. If you are looking for expert opinion, it is better to contact a dermatologist.

It\’s interesting that you mention the skin\’s collagen properties and creams in the same post. Many of the best touted stretch mark creams have a high percentage of collagen and also Vitamin E, which is said to improve the skins moisture and \"elasticity\".

This will, of course, eventually help to reduce or hide stretch marks. As for surgery you are perfectly correct. The cost of surgery is going to be out of a lot of people\’s price range, plus for me personally, i\’d be too scared to even think about going under the surgeon\’s knife!
