What is Physical Health? Before you could know how to achieve it you must first determine what this means to you personally. It’s my opinion physical wellbeing is possessing enough energy to live your daily life free without needing to stress about being unwell, sore or simply feeling too sluggish to do something. Rest assured that even lean or regular sized people can be very unhealthy. A good metabolism doesn’t make you a healthy person.
Motivation. This is probably the single most difficult thing to overcome with regards to being or staying healthy. Men and women are frequently overweight or sluggish because they just can’t get motivated to get out there and do the physical exercise they know they should. So how do you get motivated?
There are several methods to get motivated to workout. First of all you can workout with a friend, partner or even your children. This method is very effective as even on days when you don’t feel like exercising they can give you that tiny push you need to simply do it anyway. And there is going to be days like that, trust me.
Secondly you could attempt some simple subconscious triggers to help you get motivated and remain motivated. Looking at yourself in the mirror daily to remind oneself the reason why you’re exercising can be effective. Just look at yourself and picture what your body may be like when you’ve reached your physical health and fitness goal. And while you’re standing in front of the mirror talk to yourself. Say “I will go for that walk tomorrow.” ten times to yourself. Even when you don’t believe it it is a proven method of motivation, used by a number of the worlds most successful businessmen and women.
Exercising is the key. Cardio exercise is easily the most effective way to stay in good shape. Going for walks for 15-30 minutes each day is a great way to raise the overall levels of energy every day. So if you’re just starting out take a stroll around your block, if that is too far walk to the corner and back once or twice. Should you get bored quickly you can just walk for 15 minutes in a direction then turn around and walk home. By doing this you can explore new streets and keep the walk interesting. Or in the event you shop lots wander down every isle even though you don’t need anything there.
Other great workouts for general physical health and fitness include cycling, running, swimming, martial arts, dancing (zumba). Sports like Squash or Tennis are good also. These will provide you with a fast paced hour or so per week of intense workout, which with time will build up your endurance and core fitness level.
And finally diet is definitely important. The less ‘bad’ food you consume the simpler it’s going to be to keep a great physical health . Consider changing out your white bread for wholegrain. Alter your eating habits. Eat only until you’re full and place the rest in the refrigerator for a snack. Try eating 5 times a day, this has been shown to trigger your metabolism and help with the digestion of food. You might also try incorporating more vegetables and fruit into your diet.
As always a good diet and regular exercise is the key to good health. So go out there today and create some improvements. Life is waiting around for you to live it and good physical health and fitness will make sure you can for years to come.

The greatest risk to men’s health is their reluctance to seek help at times of difficulty.
This hard-hitting statement was made by Health Minister Edwin Poots as he opened a men’s health event in Belfast City Hall aimed to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.
The event is part of the efforts to highlight Men’s Health Week.
The Minister said: “The improvement of men’s health-related behaviours is a vitally important challenge for our society.
“All too often, there is a reluctance to seek help at times of difficulty or to take part in health improvement programmes that are arranged by GPs and other healthcare professionals.
“It is vital that this is addressed, as many illnesses and conditions such as bowel, prostate and testicular cancer can be treated successfully if diagnosed at an early stage.”
The Minister also went on to emphasise the importance of having a healthy lifestyle in helping to maintain good health. He said: “Behaviours such as smoking, drinking to excess, having unhealthy eating habits and a lack of physical activity are hugely influential in causing disease.
“Too many men rely on other people in their lives to make health care arrangements for them.
“Men have to take more responsibility for their own health. They need to decide to make healthier choices and we need to provide the means to support them in their efforts.”
The men’s health event at City Hall has been organised by the Belfast Trust and various community and voluntary organisations. It provides an opportunity for men of all ages to drop in and avail of various health checks, including cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and health MOT checks.
